Family Background and Personal Life: Born in Manhattan, New York, he is the younger of two children. His father is Robert Downey, Sr, is an actor, writer, producer, cinematographer, and director of underground films while his mother Elsie is an actress. Downey played minor roles in his father’s movies in his childhood. At the age of five he made his acting debut in playing a sick puppy in the movie Pound. As a teenager, Downey Jr. attended the exclusive Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Training Center in upstate New York and in the end dropped out of Santa Monica high school to pursue acting full time in New York.

Career: In his early career he did a series of films associated with the Brat Pack. However he became notable with the movie Less Than Zero.  He then played the leading roles in Air America (1990), Soapdish (1991) and Natural Born Killers (1994) and tried to establish himself as an actor. However his higher-profile role was that of Charlie Chaplin in the 1992 film Chaplin.  He earned an academy award for this.  His career came to a downturn due to his drug abuse and was even detained for the same.  After 2000 Downey joined the cast of the hit television series Ally McBeal. His performance was praised and he was nominated for an Emmy Award in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category and won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a mini-series or TV Film.

Then he appeared in semi-independent films such as The Singing Detective (2003), Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005), and A Scanner Darkly (2006) that showcased a new lease of life for him. He also had supporting roles in the mainstream films Gothika (2003) and Zodiac (2007). In 2004, Downey released his debut studio album The Futurist.

However his cast as the title character in the comic book adaptation Iron Man was a blockbuster hit.  Later he played the adaptation of Sherlock Holmes, released Christmas 2009, for which Downey won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for his portrayal of the famous detective. He then created the same sort of magic in the movie Iron Man 2.

Career: Cate Blanchett  joined a drama group at her Methodist College, playing small roles in small-time plays. This was her first taste of acting. Cate Blanchett studied art history at the University of Melbourne before she decided to continue her education abroad. After living for a while in England, she traveled to Egypt. Here she was asked to be an extra in a boxing movie being shot nearby. Another incredible role she played was in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Blanchett, as the Elf Queen Galadriel, has certainly enchanted all. She continued to do the series The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003).
Cate portrayed Katharine Hepburn alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in The Aviator. Her incredible performance was rewarded with a Best Supporting Actress award at the 2005 Academy Awards ceremony.
